an interview by Lori Strauss
Meet Trish Manna
Trish Manna ( tmanna@ghvhs.org) was interviewed
by HCCA 2nd Vice President Lori Strauss
( lori.strauss@stonybrookmedicine.edu) in January 2017.
LS: Thank you, Trish, for your willingness to share your story and expertise with
us. Please tell us a little about yourself and
your background. What led you to enter
the Compliance, Audit, and Privacy arena
having spent the majority of your career in
Information Technology?
TM: Thank you. It will be my pleasure to share my story. I have been with
Greater Hudson Valley Health System
for 29 years this year. I spent the first 23
years in Information Technology (IT),
which, when I started out, was referred to
as Computer Operations. In IT, you deal
with a multitude of functions inclusive of
specific rules to comply with regulations
to ensure your claims and processes are
clean and compliant with government and
payer requirements.
The opportunity to transition to
Compliance intrigued me for a couple of
reasons. I wanted to look at what we were
building from a different perspective and
work with a team that would enable me to
analyze and audit that data for accuracy and
ensure compliance. I was also interested in
confirming that protected health information (PHI) was kept private to conform with
the HIPAA Privacy Rule.
LS: How have your various roles in IT
assisted you as the Director of Compliance,
Trish Manna, CHC, CHPC
Director of Compliance, Audit &
HIPAA Privacy
